The Morning Show season 3 episode 8 recap & review: DNF

In The Morning Show season 3 episode 8, Alex faces criticism for her affair with Paul, Bradley tries to meet a possible whistleblower, and Laura learns Bradley’s secret. The episode is now streaming on Apple TV+.

Recap

Chris is receiving heat for her social media post. On her way to the studio, a citizen throws paint at her. Alex and Paul are also being questioned, as their picture of them kissing together has been published by The Vault.

It is Alex who is facing people more than Paul Marks. Everyone at UBA is gossiping about them while Paul is in Texas. Mia and Alex have to remind them that they have to cover SCOTUS’ decision to overturn Roe this week.

Stella and Cory discuss Alex and Paul’s affair. Stella thinks Paul is making moves, and considering how her friend Kate came to warn her, she believes he is up to something. Cory doesn’t care, as long as they have Paul Marks’ deal. Also, Cory’s buyout is $150 million, so he isn’t worried about getting fired.

Stella attempts to reach out to Kate, while Amanda keeps pressuring her to sign the contract offered before the shareholder vote. Stella knows Kate won’t talk to her anymore, so she thinks of taking Bradley’s help.

Kate may talk to Bradley. Hence, Bradley tries to contact Kate, who eventually responds. Bradley is invited to meet her at a theater, but Kate never shows up.

Meanwhile, Laura learns from Bradley that she and Cory spent a day together with Cory’s mother. Laura does wonder if Bradley and Cory had a thing. Laura’s co-anchor at YDA, Audra, further encourages Laura to check Bradley’s messages on the leaks available online.

Initially, Laura hesitates, but when she does check the messages, she ends up finding out about Bradley’s edited video from the US Capitol and Hal’s involvement in the attack.

Amanda warns Paul Marks to not lose focus while he is with Alex because she can see that he has been smiling a lot lately.

Alex, on the other hand, refuses to release a statement regarding her relationship with Paul Marks. She also pivots and decides to pull the interview with him too.

Alex plans to interview someone regarding SCOTUS’ decision and have it air instead. Alex and Chip struggle to find a person they can interview for this.

Chip somehow arranges an interview with Jess Bennett, co-founder of the online magazine The Break. Alex does this interview completely unprepared, where she is questioned about her relationship with Paul Marks.

Alex gets mad at Chip for not having her back, as he promised. Chip reminds Alex that she is the one who has lit this fire, while she blames him for everything. After a huge argument, Alex fires Chip.

Paul returns after his project in Texas becomes a disaster. During a photoshoot, Cory warns Paul not to risk the deal and explains to him what it means to handle a legacy media company.

Amidst all of this, Chris is pulled from covering SCOTUS and is given a bodyguard until everything cools down. Mia sees André on YDA. She confronts him and criticizes him for choosing work over everything else. She calls him a middle-aged adrenaline junkie who can’t commit to a zip code.

André later visits her and apologizes not only for not calling her but also for misbehaving with her because of Mitch. André and Mia end their day with a kiss, despite Mia being a little hesitant.

Paul visits Alex, and after hearing that Alex feels she doesn’t belong at UBA anymore, he pitches that they should just sell UBA. Once UBA is sold, they can build what she wants right from the ground up. It is revealed that Paul Marks is working with Fred, as Amanda insists they be careful with this deal.

Chip lets Bradley know that Alex has fired him. Bradley feels sorry for him, but it turns out that she is going to need him. The day at UBA ends with the staff raising a toast to Hannah.

Review

The episode is filled with a lot of animosity, from Paul Marks being up to something to Kate trying to be a whistleblower to Alex possibly getting manipulated. The drama is at its peak.
The character of Alex will majorly disappoint the viewers. They are going to be mad at her for firing Chip, who has been the only person there for her, and choosing Paul Marks, who is using her, as the show suggests. It’s frustrating to see how Alex can so easily trust Paul.
Meanwhile, Laura’s next moves make a viewer curious. She kind of hates Hal for everything he puts Bradley through, and his involvement in the US Capitol attack is the worst of it. Either Laura can let this go or ruin her relationship with Bradley further by taking a step that Bradley might not appreciate.
