Episode 4 of Ahsoka follows the titular Jedi and Sabine as they attempt to wrest the map from Morgan’s control and stop them from making the jump. The episode is streaming on Disney+.
Recap
Huyang and Sabine attempt to repair their ship as they are stranded on Seatos without communication. Ahsoka says that they might have to make the difficult decision of destroying the map so that no one is able to travel to Thrawn’s location.
She talks about the greater good while Sabine still believes they can find Ezra. Baylan sends Marrok and Shin to ensure that Ahsoka and Sabine do not interrupt them. The map is pinpointing the coordinates for the Eye of Sion to jump to.
Hera decides to go against orders and help Ahsoka despite being warned. She is joined by Carson Teva and a few other X-Wings as they head to the Denab system.
Ahsoka and Sabine come face to face with Shin and Marrok. Sabine and Shin are pulled into combat with each other while Ahsoka duels with Marrok.
She kills the inquisitor and Sabine tells her to go after the map while she continues to engage Shin. Shin disarms Sabine but the Mandalorian showcases a moment of force ability before using her wrist blaster to disarm Shin.
Shin uses a smoke grenade as a distraction to go back to the Henge and help her master. Ahsoka arrives to find Baylan waiting for her.
He says that he’s helping the Empire because Thrawn will start a war for the betterment of the universe. The two of them begin dueling until Ahsoka gets her hands on the map right before it finishes transmitting the coordinates.
It burns her hand and she drops it while still fighting with Baylan. Shin arrives and Ahsoka is worried about Sabine for a moment so she knocks Shin unconscious.
Baylan corners her to the edge of the cliff when Sabine arrives and threatens to destroy the map with her blaster. Baylan forces Ahsoka off the edge and then attempts to reason with Sabine.
He reads her mind and tells her that if she gives him the map, he will take her to Ezra. She hands it over and is immediately force choked by Shin but Baylan tells her to stop.
He places the map back to finish the transmission, at which point Hera arrives out of hyperspace. She gets the lay of the land from Huyang and Phoenix Squadron attempts to cut off the Eye of Sion.
Sabine goes along with Baylan and Shin as a prisoner after Baylan destroys the map to ensure they aren’t followed. Morgan activates the ring and they jump to hyperspace.
Ahsoka wakes up in the world between worlds, where she is met by her former master, Anakin Skywalker.
Review:
- The combat sequences are expertly choreographed and scored. Seeing Marrok just wisp away without some big reveal of his true identity will disappoint many though.
- Baylan Skoll is a wonderfully written character, who is in a way the antithesis of Ahsoka. He isn’t explicitly Sith, but he has lost faith in the Jedi Order and his motivations are complex. Stevenson did a magnificent job in the role.
- The score remains one of the best aspects of the series. No matter the quality of the narrative or any other issues, the music in the Star Wars franchise remains top tier.
- Bringing back the world between worlds and presumably Anakin’s force ghost is huge and it will be exciting to see where it goes from there, especially with the Vader theme tease right at the end.
