In Doctor Cha episode 9, Jeong-Suk begins her retaliation by passive-aggressive acts and leaving home, while Seung-Hi is left heartbroken after meeting In-Ho’s mother.
The family welcomes Jeong-Suk to the table and sings Happy Birthday to her. Jeong-Suk forces In-Ho’s face into the cake, erupting in laughter afterward as she tries to hide the fact that she has learned about his affair.
The family tries to speculate if she has found out about the secret or not. The next day, Jeong-Suk calls everyone for a meeting and announces that she’s leaving home to go live in one of the resident dorms. In-Ho and his mother try to protest her decision but the siblings support her.
She departs later on, while Kwak Ae-Sim fears that she won’t be returning now. On the marathon run, Roy Kim stops to see what worries Jeong-Suk and later asks her to accompany him and others on the medical services trip to one of the communities.
In-Ho also rushes off to the trip and in the process, ends up ignoring Seung-Hi while she suffers from acute pain in the stomach. Earlier, she meets Jeong-Suk’s mom, still unaware of their relationship, and finds her motherly appearance and behavior very heartening.
All the doctors reach the village and set up camp. In-Ho has to reluctantly take on a case of severe constipation where he has to manually get the bowel movement started. Meanwhile, Jeong-Suk goes and takes care of a patient like he’s her own parent.
Seunh-Hi also meets In-Ho’s mom who has visited her to tell her to back off and put an end to the affair. Seunh-Hi shows her a picture of her daughter, but Kwak Ae-Sim insists that she stops this affair, which makes Seung-Hi break out in tears and start bawling.
Meanwhile, In-Ho continues to approach Jeong-Suk while fuming over Roy Kim spending more time with her. At the end of the day, the doctors all gather and In-Ho decides to get into an unofficial drinking battle with Roy Kim, which ends in the two getting very drunk.
Jeon So-Ra watches a video on Jung-Min’s phone and soon scrolls to the one in which he, along with In-Ho and the rest of the family is celebrating Jeong-Suk’s birthday. Meanwhile, a super drunk In-Ho takes the karaoke mic and calls Jeong-Suk, shouting “honey” at her, which surprises all, before Doctor Cha episode 9 rolls the credits.
- Jeong-Suk’s cake plunger attack on In-Ho is indeed cathartic, as she puts it, but the events that follow and the treatment that In-Ho has been subjected to thus far aren’t nearly as cathartic as it deserves to be.
- The physical comedy is brilliant in this episode, which may also detract from the more serious elements needed for Jeong-Suk’s story to remain effective.
- Talking about comedy, the parts with the quarreling chiefs are a lot of fun, and so are the subtle and understated comic chops of Kwak Ae-Sim.
