Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 1 recap & review: Hidden Inventory

In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 1, the show delves into the past of Satoru Gojo when he was a second-year student along with Suguru Geto.

Recap

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 premiere begins in the past. Mei Mei and Utahime are at an abandoned house trapped in a spatial loop by a cursed spirit. They figure the way out of this but before they can break free of it, Gojo and Geto arrive and wreck all of it, including the building and the spirit.

Later, they’re reprimanded by a younger Yaga for forgetting to open a curtain. Geto and Gojo later argue about sorcerers and non-sorcerers, with the former believing it’s the duty of the powerful to protect the weak, but Gojo cheekily dissents. Before they can begin another one of their brawls, Yaga arrives and assigns them a difficult task.

The task entails the protection of a girl named Riko, who’s a vessel for Master Tengen, who needs to merge with a human every 500 years since his immortality-cursed technique doesn’t grant him true immortality.

If he doesn’t merge a suitable human, or Star Plasma Vessel, he would evolve into something beyond human and lose his will. In the worst-case scenario, he might even become an enemy of humanity.

However, two organizations are opposed to this and have learned about Riko. These are the curse user group ‘Q’, who wants to take over the world by sending Master Tengen on a rampage, and the Star Religious Group that worships Master Tengen — ‘Time Vessel Association.’

They want to get rid of the vessel because they only worship Master Tengen’s pure state of being. Gojo and Geto arrive to pick up Riko who’s already being hunted but Geto saves her from falling off the building after an explosive is set off. The culprits are the members of Q, one of them engaging Geto, the other one Gojo.

Meanwhile, an executive of the Time Vessel Association hires an individual named Zenin Toji, asking him if he’ll join the assassins of the Plasma Vessel Association. Toji corrects him, saying he’s not a Zenin anymore since he’s taken his wife’s surname, Fushiguro.

Review

  • Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 kicks off with an exciting delve into Gojo’s past. The cheeky overpowered protagonist is of a tender age and surprisingly the best friend of Geto, his number 1 adversary in the present.
  • It’s fascinating to see the foundation of Geto’s ideology and how it differs from the views that Gojo has on sorcerers and non-sorcerers or the weak and the strong.
  • The most exciting part comes just before Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 1 rolls the credits, as the main antagonist of the arc, Toji Fushiguro, enters the frame. With Gojo’s recurrent flexes and boastings about being the strongest, it’s compelling to speculate how that notion of his will be challenged.
